You will use FTP (file transfer protocol) to transfer files from your computer to the server. If you've used FrontPage, much of this will not apply to you. If you have used FrontPage you should NEVER use regular FTP to upload your files as this will damage the extensions. However, you may still wish to review this section to learn about the other ways you may access your account. FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the most common method of uploading your web files to your website. You have unlimited access to your account 24 hours a day. This allows you to create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and then upload the files to your web server. FTP is a part of the TCP/IP (Transmissions Communications Protocol / Internet Protocol) making it there fore a protocol and not a program. Although there are FTP programs, these act more as interfaces to a web server using the FTP protocol.
